Ace: The highest card in poker, the die with one dot, and another name for a dollar.

Aces and Eights: In poker, this is considered the "dead man's hand" because it was the hand being held by Wild Bill Hickok when he was shot. Also, the name of a version of a video-poker game in honor of Wild Bill.

Ace High: A hand in poker containing odd cards, the highest of which is an ace.
Ace Lock: Brand name for a high security lock found on many slot and video-poker machines that uses a cylindrical key.

Ace Poor: A lower than average number of aces remain in the unplayed cards.
Ace Rich: In blackjack, the composition of the remaining card has more aces proportionally than normal.

Aces Up: A hand in video-poker containing two pair, the higher of which are aces.

Across the Board: A bet on all the numbers (4,5,6,8,9,10) in craps.
Action: The amount of money you wager over a given period of time. Used as a basis of judgment for comps.

Action Player: A player who bets big and for long periods of time. Sometimes used as a euphemism for stupid player.

Ada from Decatur: Archaic craps term for the eight. Sometimes known as Annie from Arkansas.

Adjustable Jackpot: The money compartments of the machine can be adjusted to accommodate a greater or lesser number of coins.

Ante: In poker, chips or cash put up by the players before the dealing of the hands. The ante in video-poker is the money you put in to receive your cards.

Any-craps: A bet at craps that the shooter will roll a two, three, or 12 on the very next roll. A Crazy Crapper bet and not recommended.

Any-Seven: A bet at craps that the next number rolled by the shooter will be a seven. A Crazy Crapper bet and not recommended.

Automatic Payout: Direct payment from the machine to the player without the need of a slot attendant's assistance.

Award Card: Same as payout card, payment panel, reward card, reward panel, hand payments. The posted payouts for the various hands of a given video-poker machine.
Back Bonnet: Protective covering in the upper rear portion of a machine.
Backline: A bet on the Don't Pass that the shooter will lose. Any bet that is placed against a shooter.

Back Lip: Protective plate that covers the coin entry area.
